Summary

This is a nine days/eight night’s adventure safari in search of the semi aquatic Sitatunga Antelope also referred to as the Marsh buck. The safari begins in Amboseli National Park to Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru National park all the way to Kitale, to Kakamega forest and lastly a visit to the home city of the Lake Victoria.

Day 1: Nairobi-Amboseli

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, you will be met by our representative who will share with you the itinerary then embark on your trip to Amboseli National Park which is about 4 hours’ drive from Nairobi. The name "Amboseli" comes from a Maasai word meaning "salty dust. You are expected to arrive at the home of the African Elephant in good time and drive on to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will have the afternoon at leisure checking into your rooms as you enjoy the facilities that the lodge has to offer. Later you will take an evening drive that will show you the best of what this park has to offer.

The park is crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro and the best place in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close.

You are expected back in the lodge in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 2: Amboseli

On this day, you will take an early morning game drive; this is because most of the animals just started roaming around and therefore a great time to see most of the animals.

The major attractions that you expect to see in this park include Mount Kilimanjaro, the observation Hill-at this hill you have an overall view of the whole park especially the swamps and elephants- , the Swamp below observation hill -which hosts many elephants, buffaloes, hippos and a variety of water fowl- and Heard of Elephants. Other attractions are Wildlife of 80 different mammals ranging from the tiny spectacled elephant shrew to the huge bulk of the African elephant and the over 400 bird species.

You are expected back to the loge in good time to enjoy your breakfast. You will later depart for a visit to the local communities to enjoy their culture and dance. You are expected to the lodge in good time for lunch and have the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Later you will take an early evening game drive to explore further the park as you enjoy the nature and the scenery.

Day 3: Amboseli-Naivasha

After an early morning breakfast, you will embark into your tour van and depart at around 0730 hrs, with game drive as you exit the park for about 6 hour drive to Lake Naivasha. You are expected for a late lunch and later check in to your rooms.

You will later take a drive to the shores of the lake for a 1 hour boat ride into the lake as you enjoy the scenery and the nature that the environment has to offer.

Lake Naivasha is the only Rift Valley Lake that is fresh because it has an underground outlet. The lake and its surroundings are rich in natural bounty. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia, yellow fever tree. These forests abound with bird life making the place known as a world class birding destination. While here you will enjoy Giraffes wander among the acacia, Buffalo wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the Lakes large hippo populations sleep the day out in the shallows.

Day 4: Naivasha-Nakuru

After breakfast you will take a Walk on the Wild Side at the hells gate national park. The Spectacular scenery include: the towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam.

You will then depart and proceed to the beautiful wildlife haven, rhino and bird sanctuary well known as Lake Nakuru National Park. You will arrive on time for lunch and immediately proceed for a game drive within the park so see the very best attractions the park has to offer.

The attractions in the park including the Flamingo (Greater and Lesser) and other water birds including a variety of terrestrial birds numbering about 450 species in total, Mammals including white rhinos, waterbuck, Roth’s child giraffes, Antelopes among others, View-point that gives you a spectacular view of the lake and the park, Hills, Makalia waterfalls and Unique vegetation including the unique and biggest euphorbia forest in Africa, Picturesque landscape and yellow acacia woodlands.

You are expected back to the lodge in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure enjoying the amenities at the lodge.

Day 5: Nakuru-Kitale

After an early morning breakfast, we will depart at 0800 hrs.embark on a 5 hours safari all the way to the western region of Kenya in Kitale. You will arrive in good timefor lunch and immediately depart to the Sanctuary of the Sitatunga antelope in Saiwa swamp National Park.

The park is the smallest in Kenya with only 2.9 squire kms. It is home to the rare and endangered semi-aquatic Sitatunga antelope and as a preserve for the rare De Brazza’s monkey. In this park you will also see other attractions like Bird Watching including Water birds like- the lesser jacana, grey heron and African black duck-, the forest shelters like the Narina trogons which is one of Kenya’s most spectacular forest birds. Plants like Kenya’s loveliest terrestrial orchids.Insects like dragonflies and damselflies .Butterflies include swallowtails and charaxes. The African mocker swallowtail.Reptiles and Amphibians frogs and toads, Bell’s hinged tortoise, a forest-dwelling species, the blue-headed tree agama lizard is. Snakes include the forest cobra and African rock python and stripped chameleon.

On your way back you can visit the Kitale Nature Conservancy and the Kitale Museum to see and enjoy the Luhyia culture. You will be back to the hotel in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 6: Kitale - Mt Elgon National Park

Today after breakfast we will embark on yet another day full of adventure armed with our packed lunch to the Untamed Wilderness, Secluded Splendor of Mt. Elgon National Park. You will have your lunch at a picknick site and proceed with your adventure.

The attractions in this park include the Mount Elgon which is the second largest mountain in Kenya after Mount Kenya. Other attractions include: Caves formed from ancient lava tubes, the caves are namely Kitum, Making’eny, Chepnyalil ,Ngwarisha and many others some of which are outside the park; Salt-Mining Elephants of Kitum Cave, this Cave is regularly visited by herds of elephants, bushbuck, Red Duiker, Grey Duiker and buffalo, all in search of the salts that abound in the mineral-rich earth of the caves; Spectacular Making’eny Cave’ water fall which is located 1.5km from Kitum cave.

You are expected to return to the hotel in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 7: Kitale-Kamega

You will enjoy your breakfast then embark on your tour van for a 3 hours’ drive to the Canopy of Natural Beauty, Kakamega Forest . You are expected to arrive in good time and immediately proceed for a guided walk in the forest. You will be back in the lodge in good time for lunch and again proceed for the walk as you visit the villages to enjoy their culture and the isikuti dance.

The forest is a remnant of the rain forest that stretched all across Central Africa. There is abundance of birdlife and an important reserve for primate. The attractions include:- Mammals like Bush pig, Giant Forest Hedge Hog, Colobus Monkey, Debrazzar Monkey, Potto, Clawless Offer among others. Birds like Blue Headed Bee Eater, Black Billed Turaco, Turners Eremomela, Grey Parrot just to name a few. Snakes such as Black Lipped Cobra, Rhinoceros Horned Viper, Gabon Viper, Forest Cobra among others and trees such as Prunus Africana, Olea Capensis, MaesopsisEmini.

You are expected back to the hotel in good time for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 8: Kakamega - Kisumu

After enjoying your breakfast, you will depart and drive for about 1.30 hours to the third city of Kenya, Kisumu city.You will arrive in good time for a city tour that will include a lunch break and later check in to your hotel for dinner and have the rest of the evening at leisure.

Some of the attractions you will see on the way include the beautiful scenery, the “Crying Stone of Illesi”, this consistsof big boulders resting on top of a massive rock column giving it a human figure that is head resting on weary shoulders with tears streaming down the length the crying stone, see craftsmen producing pottery at the Illesi Pottery project and the Nandi escarpments are just a few of the attractions you will see.

Day 9: Kisumu-Nairobi

This day, you will have the morning at leisure and later be transferred to the airport for your afternoon flight back to Nairobi.

Originally Port Florence, it was later named Kisumu, which is a Luo word Sumo meaning butter Trade. In 2001 Kisumu was elevated to a city, becoming third City in Kenya after Nairobi and Mombasa. In 2006 it was declared by the UN as the first millennium city. It is a clear indication that Kisumu has grown from a stopover city to a great tourist destination.
