Summary

Kiambethu tea farm is just 40 Minutes' drive from the heart of Nairobi and provides a tranquil insight in the life of a settler farm. The tea firm is located at an altitude of 7000 feet above sea level and has lush acres of tea plantations that seem to vanish in the horizon. It is one of Kenya's oldest tea farms, two English families, Mitchell & McDonnell in the early 1900's, built the Estate. These families are said to be the first to have ventured into the tea business

Itinerary

You will be picked at around 0800 hrs and drive to Limuru area and finally to Kiambethu Tea firm. On arrival you will be met and welcome with a cup of tea. You will then embark on a lecture where you are given an insight into the tea making process beginning with the picking of tea leaves. You will also be shown how the plants were used traditionally as medicine.

This will then be followed by an opportunity to see tea in the field by taking a walk through the tea plantations and the forests accompanied by the resident guide. For instance, you will see tea pickers on the farm plucking the top two leaves and bud from each plantation as you watch the Colobus monkeys and birds who are resident in the gardens or just enjoy the sweeping views across the tea fields to the Ngong Hills.

You will drive back to Nairobi to arrive at around 5.30pm and be dropped at a location of your choice.
